Irresistible and warrior. Interview with Paytem Jane at Histéricas Grabaciones

Histéricas Grabaciones interview with Paytem Jane is here!

The Artist

Monica Sanz is born in Madrid 1985. She’s a fighter and warrior, worried and perfectionist… she’s irresistible. She’s a full artist. She is Paytem Jane.

Being just two years old she started her fashion career, that launches her in such a way that in 2000 makes her be important in France, Italy and Germany, where she starts to be very popular as an international model. But her world is music and that’s why, in 2005 she stops her fashion career to study Audiovisual Production in Madrid.

Paytem Jane has a spectacular voice, creativity and personality to write her own songs, and ambition to show her talent to the world. With all this, in the and of 2008, she signs with Sonobox.

Since she recorded her singles, Paytem hasn’t stopped making gigs all around the world in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, London, Berlin, Barcelona, Vegas… and in Lexington Queen, in Tokio, where she had to do it twice because of the amazing receivement by the japanese audience.

The Album

Paytem Jane’s first single, Irresistible (2010) was number 1 on iTunes in clicks before it was officially released. It’s an intense song, that sounds like rock, where Paytem show the strength and power of her voice. In October, Stupid Groupie was released, and intense ballad about a love story that shows Paytem can do it also in slow music.

Irresistible (2011)

The interview

Why Paytem Jane?

My name is Paytom, but Paytem means ‘warrior’, as my fans. The other was a model and I don’t need her anymore because I’ve fully accepted myself. Jane is something very special who always dreamt of having an album and been an artist, many years ago, somebody that has taken care of me and showed me lots of things. Now she will have her name on a cover.

The album has been announced since late 2008. What has been the reasons of the delay?

It hasn’t really been like that. I wasn’t ever able to give a date. Nowadays, I don’t know when will it be released. It’s always production problems that, even been something not related to me, they just affect me directly. It’s very hard to find somebody as brave as I am to get involved in such a project like this one and negotiations are tiring. It’s just that. I thought by this time I’d had my album, but I’ve had a good time. In fact, right now I think it’s been possitive to me because I’ve learned a lot and I know myself a lot much better and know best what I want to do and how. I want to release an album that I really love, because I don’t know if I will have the chance to release a second one, and I want it to be per-fect. I’ve written a lot, even for other artists, and now I feel much more ready.  It’s like I’ve found myself in the mess I was in. Now I’m happy it wasn’t easy because I forget the bad thigs, and maybe I was needing to suffer a little bit to do it better.

Paytem’s projection is clearly international. What do you expect about the album? What’s the deal with it?

I want a tweet of one persona who says that after listening to my album feels stronger os happier. If I get to release an album is because everythins is possible in life, so my deal is that my fans notice everyting is really possible, because they’re superstars. They can be verything they want.

When I was younger, I used to feel sand thinking I would never had a chance. I got obssesed searching for a person who could believe in me and didn’t notice I was really searching myself. I want my fans to find that person easily and if they don’t find it inside of them, my album gives them strength and remember I do believe in them.

What is the difference between Paytem Jane and the rest of the solo artists in national and international industry?

I think I’m doing what I realy want, but what really makes the difference is my team and my fans, who are an extension of myself.

I think the normal is the project to be focused in the artist, but mine involves a lot more people, and that makes what I do much more complete. What makes me feel different is that I’m so lucky because I can direct my own project with people that works for love and they trust me! I love doing everything: write, choose the arrangementes with my team, write de lyrics, rehearsals, plan de choreography, design the images, the covers, write the scripts for the videos, choose the clothes, the team… I need everything to be in my hand. I’m unstandable.

Interview with Paytem Jane at Tenerife Week

Now it is available Paytem Jane's interview for Tenerife Week!

All credit to Tenerife Week. Visit http://www.tenerifeweek.com

Translation by Paytem Jane Official Fanclub.

1. What were your first steps in music?

When I was 7, when I started writting songs and made gigs... At home. I told my brother and father to sit on the sofa and said: 'You are the audience and you're only two, so you have to plaudit so loud, so it seems there's much more people!' I used to sing everything, from Celine Dion to Fangoria, or my own songs, that were so dramatic. Mi dad used to press the piano pedal because I couldn't, my legs were too small. I used to wear my mom's lingerie that was too big for me, a boa and her jewels, I maked my lips up and my mic was pink and it didn't seem too serious, I took a part of a chair, that was black with some crystals and it seemed more professional.
Some time before, I used to feel ashamed while reading my first songs, but now I understand. They're really inspiring to me because I remember how I felt when I thought people were able to do whatever they wanted when they grew up.
My mom always said to me: 'If you study, you'll be able to be whatever you want', and I believed it. I don't understand why she's so surprised now. I don't want to think it was a lie so, now that I'm older, I do what I want!

It's great because, some way, they make me believe the worst is gone. I'm determined to follow those songs and live my life as I dreamt of.

Then, I started to feel interested by dancing and other music styles. Until I got to take some lessons. I used to sing all day long, went with older people dancing break, played with my uncle's piano and I even started playing drums.

It wasn't until 2008 when I decided to leave everything for music, and since then, I'm happy.

2. How would you define your music?

It's my biggest expression weapon. It makes me feel free and powerful, and that's the reason why sometimes I don't answer this question, because it depends on the day, I can be anything. I feel realy great doing rock, pop, dance or really dramatic ballads. I can't take everything to the same place. I feel it, I take it out and then they say: 'How do you want to put all this with the other stuff?'. So I put that songs as singles... and still waiting to reunite some material that could represent me... At least most of the time.
Now I'm finding my own style. Generally I want to release a potent and possitive, quite dramatic and sarcastic album. My music is authentic and genuine. BassOn always says my songs are white. He means they're honest, it's his ellegant way to say I'm rude.

3. What artists have influenced yourself?
Michael Jackson has inspired my whole life. I was born in 1985, so I'm realy fan of everything my parents used to play when we were on the car at that time: Bee Gees, Abba, Madonna, Roxette, Boney M., Springsteen, Fangoria, Cindy Lauper, Prince, Queen. .

Then I started to listen to rock music as AC/DC, Metallica or Foo Fighters, and 90's, specially BackStreet Bous and groups that were on Super Pop. You know? I'm so upset now that they've closed that magazine, I used to dream with being on it!

And everything mixed up with my passion for jazz, zarzuela, blues and musicals. I'm really fan of 'Chicago', 'Grease', 'Rent', 'Hair', 'Mamma Mia', 'Saturday Night Fever'...

4. Is image that important to have a musical career?
I think it's important, but real, authentic, that expresses what you really are, that you feel comfortable and people respect you because they understand that it's just you. Whan an artist has to wear something they don't want, people notice it. Sometimes they try to let me know I should wear more clothes, as it what would make people respect me a little more, but I don't feel ok with that. Truly, I'm like that, and I've always been. I'd feel ridiculous weating trousers and a shirt. I respect it, and I think it's great for the ones that feel good like that, but I left fashion, now I'm not told what to wear.
Anyway, I think if there isn't a good musical job, image doesn't matter, because it won't be ok. Try to keep a project in an image, it's just a big mistake.
5. Other artists have confessed that Internet has made everyone equal. Do you really think the same?
Not exactly. I think it gives some kind of advantage to people who is starting or the ones that don't have a big multinational supponrting behind, but obviously a big investment behind a discographical work, gives it a biggest stability and more chances for a project, so it's not equal.
Anyway, there are different examples: there's people that have done it really well by digital platforms, and there are many artists that couldn't reach success none with digital platforms, neither with a multinational behind.

I personally only believe in good done job. I think this really put everyone in the same point because, at least, the audience chooses and Internet is a way to be heard. It really depends on the production. As everyting I like, mine is expensive.
Anyway, what I like about the Internet is the chance to keep in touch with the warriors. I don't have much time but if I get into my blog, I always know they're there. It's great to know they're always with me if I don't forget the iPhone.
6. What can you tell us about your experience with Armani, Valentino, Versace, Schwarzkopf, L'Oreal?
It was great at that time... Sometimes. I love clothes, shoes, accessories, beauty products... But I prefer being a consumer than make the commercials.

It's a hard and really competitive work. There's a lot of great people, but also really evirl, and I never got to feel really well, specially because you cannot be yourself. I hate feeling like I'm wearing a costume. I think I was too sensitive to stand it and... Obviously I wasn't always well. Anyway, I have never failed myself.

I enjoy a lot the photoshoots and I love the runways, but it was really hard. I wasn't really confident about myself and being small in comparison with the other girls was humilliating, or they made it be like that. But, with flashes on, they dissapeared.

I also have to say I was very lucky about the professionals I have found in this way. For good or bad, fashion has marked me so much.

7. What has music and fashion in common?

Maybe it seems they're united because you have to make photoshoots, magazines, etc, but they have nothing in common.

In the photoshoots, I used to play part as women in that outfits. Now I'm myself and wear what I want! I have so much fun and do believe people can notice it. I'm very lucky because of the people that surrounds me because they respect me, understand me, support... We're really united and that's really important.

As a model, you travel a lot, but it's not stable. I'm really familiar and missed a lot my people. Now I travel a lot more, but I'm always with them. I feel better like that.

What they both have in common is that the worse, for me, was de beginning. I don't want this to me misinterpretated, I know I0m starting in music, but I mean the firt moments until you have your team. When you get to know people that are doing well in this job, you understand that the ones that last are the professionals, but you can find everything along the way. I'm not saying that all the ones that don't get it aren't professionals, but the ones that get there, they're all. In music it's easier to avoid, but anyway I believe I was very lucky about the people I've worked with. I have really good friends in both worlds.

My conversations with warrios are now much more exciting not. We have links, common feelings... I feel much more loved and our relationship is mores authentic.

Music is much complex and, despite my music is fashion, I do think fashion needs music, and music makes tendences.

8. What do you ask for future?

The chance to creat exactly the album I've always wanted and show it to a lot of people live. I mean, sing!

Here you have the translation by Paytem Jane Official Fanclub:

You started since you were very young as a model, and in the meantime receiving lessons to be a dancer and writting songs. Was it the real dream?

It’s THE DREAM. Every single thing I’ve done in my life was for this, and everythins has brought me here. Music has always been beside me. The best of my dream is that, no matter how hard it gets or if there’s nobody to show it up to, nobody can forbide me writting songs, singing or dancing. When I was younger, I used to leave home without my mother’s permission to do it with the breakers, until she noticed and took me to take some lessons. I need it, no matter if there’s an audience, lights or flashes. I spend the whole day doing it!

You came into the fashion industry because of an accident. Do you think your are a lucky person? (The journalist uses a Spanish expression that would be something like: “Do you think you have a star behind you?”)

My fans gave me a star with my name as a present, so literally, yes! :)

Seriously, I think I’m a lucky girl ’cause I know what I want and I’m determined to get it. The way to it wasn’t easy, nothing was given to me easily, and I would probably say I was in the worst situation, more than any other person, so the option of not trying it doesn’t exist.

When people say I got into fashion by an accident and stuff like that, it seems I’m here by casualty, but the truth is that the accident was a real drama. In few years I broke my feet twice in five different sides, had problems with food, grew up spending too much time alone and suffer from insomnia, anxiety and five fobias. Everything in my life has always been so extreme.

Don’t know if I’m lucky, but if I think of it, getting the point I am right now it’s a miracle itself. Everything I have has costed me everything I had.

Matt Shefield was the talent-hunter that saw you. What does he mean to you? What do you remember of that moment?

I remember I was going back home after breaking my foot, and my momm brought me those beautiful shiny stilettos as a present. I tried them and started to walk down the hospital. My doctor was a very important sports doctor, and everytime I went there I used to be with artists, sportsman, famous people, and I have to recognize I loved it.

That day he went with a friend and found me walking with my new stilettos while my dad went to take the car. He stopped me and asked: ‘Are you a model?’ I said yes and he continued: ‘Do you want to be?’ and then I asked: ‘Will you pay me well?’. He said he would if I passed the audition, and, even with my mother’s dissaproval, I did. I passed the audition with that shoes, which were the only ones I had and I haven’t ever touched them since then because I think they bring me luck and I don’t want to break them!

I was 14, until then I had only made two commercials and one photoshoot when younger, and he took me to a studio with photographer Víctor Cucart, and Gloria Farr that was after that my stylist. She took a Versace, Bagaglia made my make up and I made my first photoshoot. I was that nervous that I decided not to do it again. I broke my promise when I saw the money.

I told Matt that I would spend the money on releasing my first album and I made half of it. I decided the best was paying the degree and become a producer, and then release the album. Everything took a little more time than what I have planned when I was 14.

Why do you want to be in music industry right now that it’s so hard?

Because I can’t give up on making my dream come true, no matter how hard it gets.

The reality is that I haven’t came into music, it’s just that now I have the chance to do it and show it. I’ve always been ‘the girl in the headphones’. I went everywhere wearing them and with my notebook, but that was all. Now there’s people listening.

I have to still believe I can do it. Not trying would be the worst option, I would disspoint myself and many people that believe in me. I need music, it’s my lifestyle, it’s the way I express myself…

What do you expect of your musical career?

In a personal level, I want to feel free, but the most important is leaving something good in this world. I’d love to make somebody happy, if it was only just one person I would feel great. I would love that somebody decided to go on because of my music, the same way I did with Michael Jackson’s music, that somebody fell in love with one of my songs or that one of the silly things I write would make somebody fall in love with another one. I was very happy the day a girl said to me that ‘Stupid Groupie’ is her favourite song. I never forget anybody’s face when they say something like that to me.

You had a music teacher who said you would never be able to do this. What would you say to him?

I would be very polite saying nothing, but the day he said that in front of all my classmates whas horrible to me.

We made a psychological test that showed up our skills, just to choose the lessons we wanted to take for the next year. I was the only one who had the test that showed artistical skills, and he recommended me it was better for me to forget about it. He said that, to be an artist, you needed to know someone, be beautiful and rich. I insisted a lot that I would be an artist one day, and that I would sing, because I loved it and was good at it.

When I went back home, some girls hit me and broke my discman, my biggest treasure at that time, and Michael Jackson’s ‘History Book 1′. It scratched and I went back home just been able to listen to ‘You are not alone’. I held my tears until I was in my room for my mother not to notice.

After releasing ‘Irresistible’, I went one day to the school and left the single and a picture of my yearbook with a note that said: ‘I told you’. Maybe it wasn’t ok, but it was like if I had avoided another hitting some years before, because I don’t really know what happened. I wasn’t really popular, but I didn’t piss anyone off, so I didn’t understand anything. Now I understand. Knowing what I am and what I want to do, makes me much powerful.

What is the best of your time in fashion?

I’ve learned a lot in the business and it helps me a lot when I’m in front of a camera. But, no doubt, the best was having anorexia. When I got to the limit I knew how distorted was reality in my head and that I don’t care what others think about what I want.

It’s hard, but I say this to people who felt despised because they wanted something different than the others.

I used make up to be beautiful for the others, I put weights into my vagina to weight what the nurses wanted, and I used to change my big hospital clothes that disimulated my illness to put really adjusted clothes that showed up how thin I was for bookers. It seems I was acting perfectly for the others, but that was killing me. Then you understand you’re perfect when you feel ok, no matter how you are.

I healed because I wanted. I started eating, left fashion, and went to college to become a producer and make my dream come true.

What is like being known as ‘The Goddess’?

Bipolar problem, because no one of the people who know me would name me like that.

It’s something I never think of, to be honest. I know it cames from a photographer, but the truth is that, as much, I’m the chaos goddess.

It’s not worthy, and it’s not good because he wasn’t talking about beauty and that’s what everybody thinks. It depends on what you like, and the normal thing is to think ‘It’s not that much’, and the truth is that I’m not.

What about your artistic name, Paytem Jane. What do you want to express with it?

Since I was little everybody called me ‘Paytom’ and I hated it because I thought it was a boy’s name. In public, I asked everyone to use my first name, because it was easier to me surviving behind Monica. In fact, I’ve been my whole life remembering everybody ‘Monica is my name’. It was an armour, but music has made me find myself and now there is nothing I feel ashamed of. My name’s not feminine, but I can still be sexy.

In the other hand, only my grandmother and my warriors support me in my career, support what I really am, and I think I’m much more honest with them this way. I’m myself!

Paytem, with ‘e’, means ‘warrior’, so I changed it because of the warriors, and I’m using the name of the person that has always loved me for what I am, who I didn’t share surnames with. She has always showed me her love for music, wanted to sing, see her name in an album cover, and she will!

Now I keep on telling everyone: ‘My name is Paytem Jane’

Between 2000 and 2005, your life happens in France, Italy and Germany, is that the reason why you sing in English? Will we be able to hear you singing in Spanish?

Maybe. I was about to record the first one, but it wasn’t the moment. I’m sure one day it will happen.

I started writting in English when I was 7 because of three reasons: because I wanted to sing for everyone, because the boys I used to write about where English-speakers, and because me and my best friend were the only two in our classroom who were able to speak English and I didn’t want anyone to know what was written on it if one day my notebook was stolen.

How woud you define your music?

Indefinable. It’s so personal. I try to sing everything I love, everyting that makes me emotional and makes me feel something. Every song needs its arrangement and they are really, really different between them. When I close the album, I will search the reasons why I wrote them and make them be a part of an all.

My mom didn’t want me to be an artist, but I was born in 85, and I was on the back seat when she played Boney M in the car, along with Abba, The Beatles, Roxette, Madonna, Fangoria… It was like feeding the monster.

But you’ve sang songs like ‘Caro Mio Ben’. Do you consider yourself a versatile artist?

If I say ‘no’, my producers will kill me, because I’m driving them crazy because of this. I love music, I touch everything, and they sometimes lose me.

My grandmother has always played opera and zarzuela (Spanish classical music) since I was very young, and I seriously love it!

I don’t know what songs will finally come out, but they say: ‘We cannot release this, this is not what your fans expect from you’, and I say: ‘Yes, well, we’re making it anyway’.

You’ve released two singles: ‘Irresistible’ and ‘Stupid Groupie’. When are you releasing your first album?

Somebody will hate me for this, but I hope I will happen one day next year… If it depended on me, we could release 3 albums the day after tomorrow, but there’s always burocracy outside the project that makes everything harder. Releasing is not as easy as it seems, as I thought. There is always any problem.

We’ve seen you singing ‘Born this way’. Will there be any versions in your album?

No. I sang ‘Born this way’ because I was asked to it. But no, I need to do and feel what I sing. And I have enough by trying to get some space to my songs.

The day I sang ‘Born this way’ I noticed it’s not mine, no matter how identified I can fell with the song. The song starts saying ‘my mom told me when I was young we all born superstars’, and while I said that I realised I couldn’t be singing a biggest lie, because anyway it would have be me who said that to my mum.

You’ve got your official webpage, and the fanclub one, but there are many more webpages dedicated to you. How do you feel about all that support?

Very happy, but most of all, very proud of my warriors because I think they do this because they understand all this and feel a part of me. I’m really thankful because I can share my dream with them, because it wasn’t easy fighting alone until now and they make me feel stronger. My dream is that we can leave something together and that they are themselves, no matter what. I would love to make their dreams come true through mine, and that I was the only one who had to suffer all the hitting, the hard times to make them free.

I feel proud because they know what they want and fight for it with me, and that makes them powerful. They express what they want, we’re free. It’s like an army united by love. They support me, I represent them.

How did you came up with the idea of writting a blog in English telling what you’re living?

Because I need direct contact with my fans because, if I want them to live this dream with me, I have to keep them informed! They help me. I even asked for advice to choose my dress in the last event! I need them!

Model, dancer, writer, singer, producer… What’s left to do or what would you like to do?

I’m really nervous and when I can’t go on with music, I entertain myself. I’m starting to design some clothes, but just as a hobby, because I always end tunning every outfit my own way. What’s serious, are the videoclip screenplays, if they are, and the choreographies, that i try then to be as I imagined them when I wrote the song. I choose everyting I can, even the lights. I the end I have a problem and I need to do everything personally and supervise what I couldn’t do since the beginning, but I still need to learn everyting!!

If you had to choose between fashion and music, what would you choose?

If there is any doubt, music ;)

A QUIZ

A dream to make come true?

Just one? Mmm, I want to make a worldwide tour with my songs, but for now, just that somebody feels identified with one of my songs is enough.

A role model?

Nobody, because nobody has ever made what I want from the poin I was in.

A vice?

Kissing people. When I have someone I trust in, I cant avoid! And buying shoes.

Last book you read?

Federico Moccia’s ‘Scusa Ma Ti Voglio Sposare’

Can’t go out without…

Sunglasses and iPhone.

A lucky charm?

My sennheiser and the warrior’s bracelet.

What do you do before getting into the stage or the runway?

It’s been a while that I don’t get into a runway, but anyway, I wasn’t really excited about it, so I just simply waited for my moment with my headphones between all the people that were running as crazy and making up all the time.

Before singing, I say bye until I get to the stage to my dancers and background singers, I stay alone in a room listening to music and, just before I get out, I make up my lips.

[English] Monica Sanz in Magabusiness

Now you can read the translation to english of Monica Sanz's interview for Magabusiness.
The fanclub said that they will make a new video with subtitles as soon as possible but now, you can read it!
Monica Sanz is the kind of artist who is an artist since born. Beautiful, intelligent, and owner of a hard-forgettable voice. Is here today to present her second single that sound this well.
- Magabusiness: I was really keen on talking with Monica Sanz, we had done it in the radioshow, Magabusiness radio version, but I said: “She is an active woman, wanting to rule the world, and we wanted her to come and see us and tell us her stories, her things, and here she is, Monica Sanz.
- Monica Sanz: Here I am, it’s a pleasure.
- Magabusiness: How are you?
- MS: Very well, so pleased to see you.
- Magabusiness: Are you happy?
- MS: Yes, yes, really happy, excited, I really wanted to come and meet you.
- Magabusiness: Producer, writer, dancer, model, singer… I don’t know…
- MS: Whatever!! Everything!!
- Magabusiness: Where does all this comes??
- MS: I don’t even remember, I don’t remember first time I said “Mom, I want to be a singer!”
- Magabusiness: Mom I want to be an artist, they said.
- MS: No. I used to say: “Mom, I’m going to be an artist” I warned her, she can’t say I didn’t tell. When I was 2 I got lost in a restaurant, and she found me on a stage, cheering up everybody.
- Magabusiness: So it was vocational?
- MS: Yes, it was very clear to me.
- Magabusiness: But how do you start, as a model, maybe? What’s the way that brought you here?
- MS: I was singing, dancing, took music lessons and was very happy because I was on my way to the music world, but when I was 12 I had injured my left foot, I basically broke two fingers, and I spent two really bad years, it was a really bad moment, because I used to do sport… And I had to stop. But one day, at the hospital, the day I had to left the hospital, my mom gave me my first high heels and there was a person that has been really important in my life, that at the time was working on fashion and got me into a models agency. But I didn’t search for it, I wasn’t excited, it wasn’t was I really wanted. But it was really good for me, I got experience.
- Magabusiness: What were you studying?
- MS: I was on school! At that time I was on school!
- Magabusiness: But not when you were a model, really young!
- MS: Yes, yes, I was very young, but I continued on fashion because I used to say: “If I don’t have my album produced, I will do it my own”, and I paid my degree, I’m Audiovisual Producer, and…
- Magabusiness: So you’re a mate!
- MS: Yes, yes, it was very clear to me. If nobody made it for me, I would do it on my own.
- Magabusiness: So we’re going to listen to this song again,.. You’re music’s in English, what music do you do. What’s your style?
- MS: My music? My album?
- Magabusiness: Let’s listen a little bit more. Have you been to the UK, US… I’ve know there have been lots of downloads there…
- MS: Yes, it’s amazing
- Magabusiness: There are lots of things to talk about so let’s start with this.
- MS: Yes, it’s amazing, It’s been a lot more successful abroad, and I’m very thankful, but I’m also very thankful to the Spanish fans, because it’s true that everything comes from here in the end, and everything on the net, if it’s seen in another countries is thanks to the Spanish fanclub, who I’m very thankful to, I adore them and they mean a lot to me. Truly.
It’s true that 90% of the downloads are from Japan, China and USA, but I think nothing of it would happen if the Spanish ones weren’t also there.
- Magabusiness: How is it known in Japan o the Usa that you exist, for example?
- MS: I don’t know, I don’t know and sometimes we don’t find any answer because people know you, and from countries you haven’t ever been to, I don’t know! Qatar, I don’t know, really strange places, that wouldn’t have to know me, and they do! I guess people talk, I don’t know.
- Magabusiness: At the time, you’ve released by the Internet two singles, this is the second one,
- MS: Yes, Stupid Groupie is the second one. They really are “waiting singles”, until I release my first album,
- Magabusiness: What will that happen? How long will it take?
- MS: I don’t know, I don’t really want to confirm anything because I don’t want to play with people, and of course not with the illusion of that people that are supporting me that much, but it will. Don’t know when, how,
- Magabusiness: You’re so enthusiastic, that’s clear!
- MS: Yes, and there’s nobody in this world more enthusiastic about this tan me!
- Magabusiness: Because now how many songs have you written? Do you write the songs?
- MS: Yes. I write with more people, but
- Magabusiness: You write the lyrics
- MS: Yes, all of them, I’m helped with the music, I’m working with writers that are very important and really good. They send me the music, I re-send them with what I want, but in the end they do what I say and that’s all. We send them all to the studio to be produced,
- Magabusiness: To fix everything, etc.
- MS: Yes, but answering the question, there are aproximately 50 songs? I don’t know, there are lots in the drawer.
- Magabusiness: So the album could be out now.
- MS: I could have 4 albums, yes.
- Magabusiness: So this goes slowly, must be patient
- MS: Music industry is not really well now., so…
- Magabusiness: Yes, you have lots of material, and this two are the best, or
- MS: No. In fact, they’re different, two different styles, I love doing everything, they’re not better or worse, they’re just “waiting singles” I hope I can keep my bests for the album.
- Magabusiness: I say it because you have songs enough, so the album could be out at any time , but things are hard, the Spanish laws (illegal downloadings) and all that… People download, is it better releasing an album on internet, or just singles, a CD a DVD… What is best to do? Tell me, you’re a producer.
- MS: I don’t have the answer. If any producer could say it, everything would be fixed up. In fact, sometime ago, talking with Carlos Jean, an amazing producer, they’re trying to find new ways, and there are things that can work, but I only believe in well-done job, I do think that people that are working well are succeeding, there are more bands than ever, and, there’s a lot less space.
- Magabusiness: Times are not good for expending money, as well.
- MS: No. It’s a big sacrifice.
- Magabusiness: I mean expending money on releasing an album and buying it.
- MS: Yes, well, but now…
- Magabusiness: An album has a price…
- MS: Yes, but right now because of illegal downloads…
- Magabusiness: Yes, there are many people who says that it better to be downloaded, being known in the whole world and then release an album. It’s an option!
- MS: Yes, yes, In fact, I tell everybody I don’t mind singing for free I’m starting…
- Magabusiness: But you don’t have a videoclip!
- MS: We’re working on it! I can’t assure… But I will come to present it! Don’t worry, I will come here everytime you allow me.
- Magabusiness: Meanwhile, you’re performing… Where?
- MS: We had little concerts that are really good to me, because I think I’m a lot more shy on little gigs than in big concerts, and I feel much more intimidated on an unplugged, so I’m going little by little, but I feel a big support from my crew.
- Magabusiness: But there are your friends, or people saying “Who’s that girl?”
- MS: Chinese, Japanese!! There comes people who know me, people that don’t but I like people that don’t know, it’s better! New people!
- Magabusiness: Meanwhile, does this make you earn money or not?
- MS: When I think on producing, I know I will be a long time not earning… No, I’ve saved money, I’m producing with more people, so I can do it, but it’s a really big effort, really big.
- Magabusiness: You didn’t answer the question. Yous style? I know it’s very hard making a definition, Mick Jagger…
- MS: I like a lot more Angus Young, he’s my favourite guitar player…
- Magabusiness: Yes, I was wrong!
- MS: No! But I also like him so much, and most of all Michael Jackson is the biggest influence. It’s a show. Wherever I go I have my dancers, all the crew!!
- Magabusiness: Total show?
- MS: Yes, yes, All the crew, so it’s very nice, because I feel really protected.
- Magabusiness: There are musicals, that are another way…
- MS: I love musicals! I love jazz…
- Magabusiness:  There’s something about it in your mind, maybe?
- MS: When I was younger, I used to be Velma Kelly She’s my favourite musical role, and I love jazz, so I love musicals
- Magabusiness: So you can sing everything
- MS: Well… I like them all…
- Magabusiness: When you release your album, it will be something for people to dance, there will be a ballad… What?
- MS: I haven’t decided yet what song would be in it if I have the chance to do it,
- Magabusiness: But what’s the best feedback, on dancing songs or ballads?
- MS: I think they enjoy much more dancing, and jumping, So it’s easier to me for choreography, scenery… Also my fans. That are the first for me, apart from those who want to be a part of it, Stupid Groupie is being downloaded a lot and maybe this song will be the one that will allow the album to be done. So I have to notice that a ballad about a topic girls really like has worked.
- Magabusiness: Well, now you know. Where can people find you? Monica Sanz¿
- MS: Monicasanz.com, the fanclub website, lots of beautiful webs that the fans have done…
- Magabusiness: This is great, you have lots of things… You have a fanclub…
- MS: Because I have the best fans in the world, and I say it truly, because there’s maybe people that could think…
- Magabusiness: Yes, maybe! But there may be different kinds of people…
- MS: Yes, but they are the ones that rule… I love it, the warriors… I can say my fans are the best in the world because…
- Magabusiness: You look is kind of… I can’t define it… Japanese…
- MS: Define it!!
- Magabusiness: Aren’t Japanese girls something like that?
- MS: Yes, kind of Harajuku…
- Magabusiness: I don’t really know, but I’ve heard about it.
- MS: Yes.
- Magabusiness: I said, “she’s dressed like Japanese girls, or maybe she’s come riding her bike!”
- MS: No, no, no motorbike yet… Well, I can try. Next time I’ll come to meet you on the motorbike!
- Magabusiness: I say it because I ride a motorbike.
- MS: Yes? You like? I wear everything I like, everything I find… and today I had a photoshoot, I was with Daniel Romero, my stylist, who is great, and I let him do whatever, I trust him.
- Magabusiness: And this is the result.
- MS: This is the result,
- Magabusiness: Well, Monica Sanz
- MS: He said, “put your fingers here”
- Magabusiness: We really hope you suceed because of your enthusiasm and illusion and we wanted you all to know her, because she’s singer, dancer, producer, model… Everything. She can do everything, and we wanted to meet her personally.
- MS: Me much, truly.
- Magabusiness: Remember you were here when you become a star.
- MS: I will come to sing here with the motorbike!!
- Magabusiness: Thank you so much, Monica.
- MS: Thank you so much for inviting me. Thank you.

Who are you and what ‘s your job?

I’m Monica. I’m a normal girl who loves music and to sing for me, and for all the people that wants to listen to me.

When and how did you start your career as a model?

14 or 15 years ago by accident. I met my first agent at the hospital, while I was using for the first time my heels shoes after a hard injury. I supposed it had to happen. It made my life different and it makes me stronger.

Why do you decided to enter the music business right now?

I never leave it behind. I have always sing and dance and now it’s the moment of make it public. It has been a liberation for me. I’ve always needed the music to do all things. It’s like I can do anything without it. I was always the girl with the headphones.

There are albums with your collaboration?

Yes. I’m doing a lot of things and I’m decided to work with everyone who would like to work with me. I feel like doing everything, so I listen to all the proposals that arrive and if dates allow it…

Are you going to release something as a solo singer?

That’s what they say…I don’t believe it yet, but yes, it is a reality! Now I feel that the best of my life is about to arrive. I think I’ll make a big party with the warriors.

Your reputation says that you are so disciplined when you work, are you?

Yes…and so demanding, with myself first of all. I’m serious with my career. I like to use the time, I involve myself too much. For me it’s the most important and I spend all my time on it but it is because I’m happy with what I do. Anyway, they always say I have German head and Spanish heart. Bad mixture…

What are you doing lately?

I’m producing my first album! I went to the studio every time I can. If not, I’m giving promotional concert, attending my commitments, my campaigns, making collaborating with artists…

What musical instrument would you like to dominate apart from your voice?

The piano. When I was a little girl, I wanted to play "saxo" but drums makes my stress to go away a bit more.

How do you see internet to spread your ideas and music?

It's another tool, with good and bad things. I think it's needed to be adapt to this new market and is vital in this sense. I haven't decided how to distribute the album yet but I have clear that digital distribution will be present. For me, the most important thing is that Internet is the most direct way to stay in touch with my fans. Is the most important for me.

That bad is the music industry? Where do we go?

I don't know and don't care too much. I will do music…it doesn't matter what happen.

What are the groups or musicians you admire the most?

Michael Jackson has always been a hero for me, the only one, but I listen to everything. I love AC / DC, Metallica ... and also Lady Gaga or Beyonce, Gwen Stephani. When I was a little girl I used to listen to Roxette, Mecano, Boney M, Abba...
